A principal of a company that installs, inspects, tests and services Commercial Cooking Wet Chemical Fire Extinguishing Systems in New York City must hold an S-71 Certificate of Fitness.

This Certificate of Fitness is valid only for the specific person to whom it is issued and can be used anywhere within New York City.

• Renewal Fees: $15
• Renewal Cycle: 3 Years

Before You Submit Your Application

You must submit an Alternate Issuance Procedure (AIP) application to obtain the S-71 Certificate of Fitness. All applicants should review the Notice of Exam and Study Material:

Update the List or the S-71 COF card

The list can be updated on FDNY business. To change any information on the list or on the S-71 COF card, or to add/remove the system(s) that the S-71 COF holder’s company can install, maintain, repair, or test, the S-71 COF holder must follow the instruction below to request an update.

The following documents must be uploaded to make the update request on FDNY Business:

• S-71 AIP Form (PDF)
• Valid manufacturer’s training certification(s) and all other required document(s) listed in the S-71 AIP Form.
• Copy of a valid DOB Master Fire Suppression Contractor (Type A or C) License.

Special Renewal Requirements

The S-71 COF holder must upload the following documents to renew the S-71 COF:

• S-71 AIP Form (PDF)
• Valid manufacturer’s training certification(s) and all other required document(s) listed in the S-71 AIP Form.
• Copy of a valid DOB Master Fire Suppression Contractor (Type A or C) License.
